Space Haven enters early access as one of the top wishlisted upcoming games on Steam
The Earth is dying, ravaged by decades of calamity. As humanity abandons its burning homeworld, you and your crew are among the privileged few with access to a temporary haven and a chance at survival. Build your ship and gather your crew to carry you between the stars. Choose whether you’ll be heroes or villains as you struggle to survive, or watch your ship become a tomb for other, more successful crews to loot. Whatever happens, it is up to you to chart your course.
“With Space Haven, we want to dive into the topic of how human civilization might survive after the apocalypse.” said Aksel Junkkila of Bugbyte. “We want players to experience a world in space born out of the necessity to leave Earth. Many of the same perils that led to the destruction of Earth keep following humanity, and the crew must learn to adapt in order to survive.”
Space Haven combines the emergent storytelling components of RimWorld with a tile-based gas-simulation system that is similar to the one seen in games like Oxygen Not Included. The game tasks the player to build spaceships tile by tile, create optimal gas conditions, manage the needs and moods of their crew, encounter other space-faring groups, and explore the universe in search of a new Earth. The game is full of interesting choices to make; venting spaceships from all gases, killing and butchering aliens for their meat, finding a person asleep in a hypersleep chamber aboard a derelict ship, having a space burial for a fallen crew member, and more. Players can journey the stars as a notorious pirate, a cold-hearted slave trader, a prosperous merchant or an alien hunter.
With deep game play and sublime pixel art the game aspires to shape itself into a diamond among indie games. Spanning over 4 years of development the small indie team of 3 from Finland have worked on the game relentlessly pushing towards a Steam Early Access release, and it’s finally on the horizon.
Space Haven will enter Early Access May 21st at a price of $24.99 for PC, Mac and Linux as one of the top wishlisted upcoming games on Steam and with a very successful Kickstarter campaign behind it. Once in early access the indie team of 3 developers aim to continue development iteratively based on player feedback.
