Warhammer Underworlds – The Review
It’s a great sign in a video game when you’re having fun and lose track of time. This tells that the game is full of fun and worth playing. The same thing can be said about Warhammer Underworlds. Warhammer Underworlds is a strategy-based game created by Steel Sky Productions. It has seen a fair share of fame throughout the time but is it that good? Does it bring with it, fun and strategic gameplay as its tabletop counterpart? Or is it overrated? This is what we are going to find out in this article below.
For those who don’t know, Warhammer Underworlds is a part strategic war game and part deck-building board game.
Warhammer Underworlds offers six different teams to choose from that are called warbands.
Following are the six warbands:
Steelhearts Champions.
Magore’s Fiends.
Ironskull’s Boyz.
Sepulchral Guard.
The Farstriders.
Spiteclaw’s Swarm.
Each Warband has a unique set of abilities and offers two different card decks that are used as skills and abilities. The game starts with the user choosing one of the six unique warbands and one of four hex maps. The two maps get connected to form a battlefield. The goal of the game is to gather glory points that are obtained by killing enemy units and meeting card requirements. The one with more glory points at the end wins. The game lasts three rounds with four phases in each one.
The four phases include the following:
Move / Attack / Charge / Guard
Each phase has its specific properties. The attacking and defending are done by rolling a set of dice. This brings the factor of luck to the game that makes it more interesting. You just don’t know till the exact moment what will happen. This mainly makes the game challenging and fun at the same time.
The game offers a detailed tutorial with all the necessary steps that can be replayed. The user interface is simple to keep the user from confusing. The gameplay interface consists of models that can be upgraded and the cards. A single game takes no more than twenty minutes to complete and this is what contributes to making the game addictive. You don’t have to wait for long turns and lengthy battles. The game offers two modes. You can play online with players or with bots. You can enjoy a ranked mode as well as a casual mode for online gameplay.
The opponent finding takes a greater amount of time than is mostly seen in online games with a smaller player pool. The gameplay and animation are quite impressive. Each Warband has specific looks and themes that give them a good appearance. The background is mostly the same but it makes the game attractive.
Overall, Warhammer Underworlds is a complete package of fun, thrill, and strategic gameplay. You can spend hours playing and enjoying it without getting bored. Keeping the online mode aside, the offline mode is enough to quench your gaming thirst. If you’re a fan of strategic war games, then you should give this one, a try.
